DISCOVERY RIDING PROGRAM
Western Riding Lessons for Calgary and Strathmore area. Discovery is a Western Horseback Riding Program that combines riding lessons, fitness, horse care, event training with related Life Skills Training. We call it ‘Discovery’ because it gives each rider the opportunity to study and learn from their horse, and by comparison discover their strengths and what they can accomplish. (Some might call it 'Empowerment" )
Participants will:

Gain confidence while learning to ride and care for their horse

Learn how to read their horse and understand its body language

Understand their horse's natural behavior and how it was altered through training

Become excellent riders

Develop strong leadership and assertiveness skills as they learn to train and guide their horses

THE ONLY PROGRAM OF ITS KIND IN CANADA
Discovery encompasses social skills development from the back of a horse. Not only is it a fun and exciting riding experience, but also a very comprehensive western riding program. Riders start on the ground learning about horse safety, care, nutrition, and behavior. Once the riders have a solid understanding of the horse, riders saddle up and start to build their skills. This is interactive learning at its best!
WE ARE NOT THE TYPICAL RIDING FACILITY
We don’t just throw you in the saddle and hope for the best! You will have the full knowledge of their horse’s body language and intent and be able to understand the behaviors of your horse. Plus all of the different queues and techniques necessary for your horse to understand you.
With Discovery, it's all about becoming an awesome rider and a stronger person. The bond between horse and rider becomes life-changing. The benefits last forever, because the skills are self-sustaining and the experience is self-renewing through a lifetime of horseback riding.
Discovery Fees Ages 9-Adult: 4 week session 1 hour 15 min/class- $330.75 Gst included

Pre-Discovery Fees Ages 9-13: 4 week session 1 hour /class- $278.25 Gst included

PROGRAM OPTIONS
LEVEL 1 IS THE MANDATORY PRE-REQUISITE TO LEVELS 2, 3, & 4.
Equestrian Level 1: Weeks 1-4
Rider's will:

Learn the fundamentals of herd behaviour and modified behaviour

Learn proper grooming techniques and basic hoof care
-
Build a foundation knowledge of saddling and tack fitting

Learn the importance of groundwork
-
Develop the basic foundations of riding
Equestrian Level 2: Wks 5-8
Rider's will:

Expand on controlling their horse at different gaits (walk, trot, lope)

Learn to read their horse from the ground and saddle
-
Learn in depth riding techniques and manoeuvres
-
Work on calisthenics & fitness to become an overall more confident rider
Equestrian Level 3: Wks 9-12
Rider's will:
-
Continue to develop riding skills

Build on controlling different gaits (walk, trot, lope)

Start to recognize unreasonable and dangerous behaviours
-
Learn more advanced riding techniques and maneouvres

Learn how to lightly school and regain control in dangerous situations
Equestrian Level 4: Wks 13-16
Rider's will:

Learn how to control their horse for competition and speed

Build on more advanced riding techniques and maneouvres
-
Learn how to condition both the horse and themselves for sporting events

Recognize a lame/sick horse, and how to make good conditioning assesments for the sport at hand

This is to ensure we have the most current emergency and health information. However waiver forms are valid for the current calendar year. Note that there are two forms to choose from; one for clients over the age of 18 and one for those under age 18.
