The Humblehorse
Recreational Therapeutic riding Programs

Our 2008 program schedule is still not finalized, however they are normally held on Saturdays with the first class starting at 10:00 am and the second at 11:30. Our class sizes are usually limited to 5 with some exceptions. However we work around the schedules of our volunteers. They are the heart and soul of our program. Caregivers can be trained to be walkers but we only allow experienced horse handlers to lead a horse. We offer one-on-one or group sessions, depending on the individual needs and the 'demographics' of our participants.
Each program normally consists of 6 one hour sessions spread over 6 weeks. Typically our sessions are on Saturday mornings however depending upon the need we have had sessions on weekday afternoons and evenings. Orientation sessions can be scheduled anytime depending upon the requirements. Special sessions are usually arranged by appointment.
The Humblehorse Therapeutic Riding Association is currently awaiting registration as a non profit society. Our mission is to help those in need to improve their health and wellness through the use of equine assisted therapy.
Our Therapeutic Riding programs have benefited those dealing with multiple sclerosis, spina-bifada, cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome, fibromyalgia and many other physco-social issues.
We are accepting registrations for enrollment in our recreational therapeutic riding program. We are also looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping out during these sessions.

The Humblehorse recreational therapeutic riding program is geared to special needs children and adults. This program is meant to be fun while addressing the physical and social needs of each individual.
For first time participants our first session is normally one-on-one. This provides an opportunity for evaluation, rider assessment and discussion. Our 'in house' riding assessments and evaluations are conducted by our staff along with input from the client, parent or caregiver. As we assess the physical & social needs of each individual we consider current riding skill level, balance, temperament, and also the potential of each rider. From this we can match horse to rider and customize the sessions to encourage maximum participation.
Besides our own in house assessment, we would also consider the need for consultation with your physiotherapist or family physician to ensure that we are conducting a safe and beneficial therapy session . We try have fun and keep the entire process as informal as we can.

Safety is the number one concern and riding helmets must be worn at all times. The horses are trained right here at the Humblehorse and are constantly being 're-schooled' in between sessions to ensure that they remain safe and reliable. We allow only experienced horse handlers to lead the horses. The 'walkers' who walk alongside the horse are instructed on how to quickly unload a child in a safe and un-eventful manner if the need arises.
